Stop The Calls
Karen Stiles
Katie DeLong
Are you getting tired of telemarketing calls from businesses, charities and now, more than ever, the politicians?
Well, you may just be able to do something about it.
Karen Stiles from the TODAY’S TMJ4 Call 4 Action office has a few tips on how to stop the ringing.
Registering on the state and federal Do Not Call lists will stop some of the calls if they are from a business that is trying to sell you something. However, they will not stop calls from charities, political organizations, or scam artists.
If you don’t want to get a call from a charity, write a note at the time that you make a donation, and ask them to delete your name and number or keep your information private. However, if you continue getting calls from telemarketing firms representing a firm, you may need to contact the charity directly, or even file a complaint with the Federal Trade Commission. Fines can be up to $11,000 in some cases.
As far as all those calls coming in from politicians, you may be able to et some of the calls to stop by registering with a Web site known as www.stoppoliticalcalls.org. However, not all politicians are working with this service and you may still get calls. You might also want to contact the local office of the candidate, and ask them to please remove your name from their database. If enough people start speaking up, the candidates may start listening.
