Working Through Economic Worries

Are you worried about how the economy, or recent bank struggles will affect the safety of your money, job or ability to secure credit?
Well, even though times are tough, there are a few things you can do to help alleviate some of these concerns.
Karen Stiles with the TODAY’S TMJ4 Call 4 Action office has some tips on how to deal with these worries.
The Call 4 Action office has been hearing from people who are unable to get loans or jobs or are worried about what they will do if they lose their job or run out of cash.
To deal with some of this stress, try to prepare before you have a crisis. If you are unsure of your present situation, this might be a good time to educate yourself about your present or potential situation. You might want to ask questions from the appropriate sources about your investments and job status and do your own research about how economic conditions may affect you. Also, be sure that you have all of your facts before making a drastic move.
Also, talk with professionals such as credit counselors, financial advisors and career counselors. It might also be a good idea to talk with more than one, just to be sure that you are getting the proper advice for your situation.
Do whatever you can now to protect your money and stay current on your bills. If you spend too much or fall behind on payments, it could damage your credit rating and ability to get a loan later.
If you are already in a crisis, consider getting help from a professional. You can also try to negotiate with creditors, look into any government programs that might exist to help you out temporarily, and network with others in your field or situation to learn about what other opportunities or help might be out there.
However, keep in mind, there are a lot of people in need at this time, so you may need to act quickly or lose out.
