Call 4 Action: Impact Of DTV Switch On DVD / VHS Recording
Karen Stiles
Katie DeLong
Did your TV pass the digital test Monday?
Either way, there's another piece of equipment you'll need to test: your VCR or DVD recorder.
Not all of this equipment is going to work the same as it did before the digital switch.
Call 4 Action’s Karen Stiles appeared on Live at 4:30 to talk about how the digital switch may affect your recording equipment.
If you have a VCR or an older DVD recorder, you might also need to hook these items up to a converter box. The tuner in nearly all VCR's and some DVD recorders were designed for recording from an analog signal, and if you still want to record, you're going to need digital signal capabilities.
It doesn’t mean that your VCR and DVD recorder will not work at all. The good news is that you can still use your VCR and digital recorder if you just simply want to watch a VHS tape or DVD.
However, if you want to record, you may need to hook up to a converter box, or consider updating your existing equipment to a digital format.
If you still have questions or concerns about the digital switch, or how to make your TV and recording devices more friendly, call the DTV hotline or email them at www.dvd.gov, contact the manufacturer or retailer who sold you your equipment, or contact your service provider.
