Dealing with a bad deal

If you tried to take advantage of an online special, but the website crashed before you could seal the deal, contact the merchant as soon as possible, explain what happened, and ask if they are willing to make an exception and extend a sale or special offer.

Know who you are dealing with before you buy.
Buy from reputable businesses or well known websites.
Watch the fine print in ads and prices charged at the register.
Check your bank and credit card statements to be sure that the correct amount is being debited or charged.
Also, when possible, open the package or check out the quality of the item before you leave the store, to be sure that the item is genuine and not damaged or missing parts.
Once you leave the store, it can be hard to prove that you did not get what you paid for.
