Earth Day Incentives

Katie DeLong
Tuesday is Earth Day, a day for focusing on the environment and what we can do to help conserve energy and make our planet a better place in which to live. But, did you know that you can actually make money by doing something good for the environment?
Karen Stiles the TODAY’S TMJ4 Call For Action Office has some tips on how you can do some simple good things for the earth, and your pocket book as well.
There are all kinds of incentives for people who want to do something good for Mother Earth. These incentives include:
•Tax credits for purchasing a hybrid car or making energy efficient home improvements
•Money back for recycling aluminum cans, ink cartridges, cell phones, and even moving boxes
•And rebates and other incentives for purchasing an energy efficient furnace or appliance.
To find out about the incentives, there are a number of resources out there including Web sites for recycling, Energy Star, the IRS, and an Earthday.gov Web site, but you can also learn more by talking to contractors, your tax preparer and stores that sell energy efficient products or items that can be recycled.

Of course, you should always make sure that you are dealing with a reputable source and that you check out all of the terms and conditions before you count on that cash back. Also, be careful of offers that seem vague or too good to be true. Although most of these offers are legitimate, there are a few out there that leave a lot to be desired.
