Help With Tax Trouble

Karen Stiles

It’s Saturday and you have questions about your tax return, but, since it’s a weekend, do you have to wait until Monday to get help?

The good news is, maybe not.

The IRS knows that a lot of people will be working on taxes this weekend, and that is why they are offering extended phone hours and assistance at over 300 taxpayer assistance centers until 3:00 Saturday.

In addition, people can also get help online or via an automated telephone line from the Wisconsin Department of Revenue.

For more information about these programs and resources, you reach the IRS by calling 1-800-829-1040 or visit their website at www.irs.gov.

Or, contact the Wisconsin Department of Revenue at www.revenue.wi.gov. or call them at 1-608-266-2772.

For information about refunds, call 1-866-WIS-RFND.

To speed up your refund and help you avoid having problems later,
make sure that you:

• Proof read your return prior to sending, especially your math.

• Sign and date your return.

• Don’t forget to include all schedules and supporting documents that will be needed for processing.

Keep in mind, if you want to be eligible for receiving the special economic stimulus payment that is projected to be paid in May, you will likely need to file a return for 2007.

For more information about this payment consult your tax professional or the IRS.
