Resolve school issues early
MILWAUKEE - Did your child's school year get off to a rocky start?
If things have not settled down yet, it might be good time to take action
What are some of the most common problems that students encounter each year?
Learning issues, concerns about school supplies, school policies and procedures, and conflicts that arise between students or students and staff.
How do you deal with some of these problems?
Most importantly, talk to your kids and school staff, and do not take sides until you have all of the facts.
When possible, offer solutions to your child of how they may be able to handle the issue on their own.
If it appears that they may need parental support, make sure to document their concerns and seek help from the appropriate school staff members such as your child's teacher, the principal, or school psychologist.
When seeking help, keep an open mind, take notes, and offer input on possible solutions.
Set a date for following through to be sure that the issue as resolved in a timely manner.
What do you do if you just cannot seem to get the school to listen?
Contact the school's district office to ask for help or the Wisconsin's Department of Public Instruction.
If it is a school wide issue that may affect other students, you may want to talk with other parents and ask for a meeting between the school, parents, and students to discuss the issue and work on a resolution.
