Skincare products that can make you sick
MILWAUKEE - Could your skin care products be making you sick?
They could if you are not careful about reading their ingredients.
What kind of ingredients could make you sick?
Although most of the products out there are safe to use, some products like lipstick may contain lead.
Others products, like lotions, may include unsafe levels of mercury or even something like wheat germ oil that could be problematic for people with celiac disease.
How do you know if a product has a potentially dangerous ingredient?
In some cases, especially if it is a product from outside of the country, or made by a small company, you may not what is in it.
If a list is provided, make sure to take note of ingredients that mention mercury, wheat based oils, or other substances that could spell trouble.
Keep in mind, even though you may not ingest a project, some people are still susceptible to allergy or other complications, if the product is applied to their skin.
What can you do if the product information is vague or does not list any ingredients?
If possible, contact the manufacturer and ask for this information.
You might also be able to do an online search to learn more information.
If you are unable to obtain sufficient information, it may be best to err on the side of caution and use an alternative product.
