Avoiding wedding woes
MILWAUKEE - The perfect wedding with lasting memories is what most couples hope for. But, unfortunately, it does not always work out that way. Problems with dresses, photographers, and venues are just a few of the things that can go wrong.
However, there are ways to avoid these issues or nip them in the bud before they ruin your special day.
Look before you leap. Check out reputations with consumer agencies and previous customers. Get things in writing. Ask questions, and read the fine print.
Whenever possible, avoid paying in full until all goods and services have been provided. If you need to put down a deposit or pay in full, consider using a credit card. If something goes wrong, you may be able to dispute the charge later.
Make sure to plan things well in advance, and keep following through, months and weeks in advance of the big day. Do not wait until a week or a few days before to check on dresses that did not come in or to check on the venue for the reception.
And, put a "Plan B" in place such as alternative venues for the reception, or who else could take pictures, just in case the photographer does not show or provide the pictures or video after the wedding.
If things do go wrong at the last minute, try to remain calm (which may be easier said than done), and ask for help from a manager or owner. If you cannot get what was promised, try to be flexible, negotiate, and get any changes in writing.
If you cannot reach a resolution on your own, contact our Call 4 Action office to ask for help.
