Our Call 4 Action volunteers are here to listen and to help mediate consumer related problems, but sometimes you need to get in touch with a legal expert to get more information and help with complicated consumer problems.
If your problem or concern requires the assistance of a legal professional, here is where you can turn to get help.
• If you are elderly, disabled, or lack the financial resources to hire an attorney, you may be able to get help from organizations like Legal Aid or Legal Action, or from colleges or universities who have programs for students who are pursuing careers in the legal field.
However, the type of help that is available may be limited.
• If you want to do some research about a particular legal issue or concern, the Wisconsin Bar Association and the National Association of Consumer Advocates have links on their websites for everything from debt collection practices to employment issues.
• If you need to hire an attorney, and are looking to hire someone with expertise in a particular field, the Wisconsin Bar Association and the National Association of Consumer Advocates can also assist you in locating a legal professional with expertise that matches your area of concern.
Some problems can be mediated without having to take the case to court.
However, if you are in need of legal assistance, if might be a good idea to do some research, shop around, and get help from reputable, professional legal associations.
