MILWAUKEE - Are you tired of getting multiple phone calls and want them to stop?  Will registering your phone number on the do not call list put an end to these calls?

Not necessarily. Political organizations, survey companies, charities, and businesses that have an established relationship with you are not subject to the rules of the do not call list.

How do you get these types of calls to stop?

This has been a real challenge lately, especially due to special elections that are currently being held.

However, you might be able to get some of these calls to stop by asking the caller to place your phone number on their do not call list and then keep track of the date, time, name of the organization and person that you spoke with when making this request for future reference.

If you have done what you can to get your number on do not call lists and the calls keep coming, what can you do?

File a complaint with state and federal consumer protection agencies.

However, in the meantime, you might want to consider using caller ID, an answering machine, or turning the ringer off on your phone.
