Tips for buying furniture
MILWAUKEE - Furniture is one of the most expensive purchases that people make.
Unfortunately, there can be problems if you are not careful about what you are buying, from whom, and how you will be protected if something goes wrong.
Before you pay big bucks for and expensive piece of furniture, here is what you can do to lessen some of the problems that you may encounter later.
• Not only is it a good idea to check the quality of the furniture, but it is equally important to check out the reputation of the manufacturer, and most importantly the reputation of the retailer with consumer agencies.
• Before you agree to buy, ask about return policies, warranties, and finance agreements, and get this information in writing.
• If you are not taking the furniture with you, pay the least amount that is required and consider paying with a credit card.
If you have a problem with the purchase, you may be able to dispute the charge with your card issuer.
• Upon delivery, make sure to check over what is being delivered thoroughly.
If the furniture is defective, or does not meet your satisfaction, contact the retailer immediately to inquire about what arrangements can be made for repair or replacement.
If you agree to accept the delivery, make notes of what is wrong, what you were promised, and follow through with the retailer or manufacturer immediately.
If you have a problem with your purchase and are unable to get help with the retailer or manufacturer, contact consumer agencies or our Call 4 Action office for help.
