PEWAUKEE- Banking and real estate entrepreneur Eric Hovde went from virtually unknown politically to contender in a challenging Republican field.

He was very close with Thompson in terms of election results throughout the Tuesday evening, but conceded the race around 10:30 p.m.

"I never entered this race because of me," said Hovde before supporters Tuesday night.  "I'm just like all of you.  I'm a guy who got tired yelling at the television set -- who wanted to take our country back."

Hovde said of his campaign, "(I) woke people up throughout this state."

The businessman said he will support his main opponent in the GOP Senate primary during the fall election.  "(Tommy Thompson) will have my support, because we cannot let Tammy Baldwin win."

Hovde earned support from State Senator Leah Vukmir during his campaign.
"Folks that are coming from the private sector are really shaking up the establishment and the status quo," said Vukmir.
