Wet Weekend

CREATED Mar 9, 2013

Warmer air is moving through southeastern Wisconsin, bringing a brief period of light freezing drizzle/rain and even some sleet mainly before 10am.  This could give surfaces a light glazing of ice before temperatures warm up to near 40 degrees today, changing that chance to all rain throughout the afternoon.  Scattered showers are expected through Milwaukee and Waukesha throughout the day but accumulations should stay near a tenth of an inch during the day.

Moderate to heavier rain showers are likely late this evening and into early Sunday morning, most locations will pick up a half an inch or more in the rain bucket because lows will only drop into the mid-30s.  Because the rain will be melting the snow, more moisture will be added to the air and foggy conditions will develop by morning.  Rain showers are still possible throughout Sunday and many backyards could pick up an additional quarter of an inch of rain.  Try and keep storm drains in your neighborhood clear of debris to help keep up with the falling rain and melting snow to help prevent street flooding.

Colder air moves in along a cold front Sunday night and any rain shower changes over to a snow shower.  Some spots in the northwest could see 2-4" of snow by Monday afternoon but folks in the southeast will see closer to an inch or less.  This band of snow could easily move depending on the storm track so stay tuned to the forecast.  Highs stay slightly below average for the rest of the work week with a wintry mix possible on Thursday.
