Dust off the rain gear because we have a weekend soaker on tap for southeastern Wisconsin. A strong area of low pressure moves into the region today, bringing occasional showers and a few thunderstorms throughout Saturday. Some storms that develop late this evening could be on the stronger side with heavy downpours possible but the best chance for severe weather will stay to our south and west. While we will have a few dry periods today, the majority of the day will be cloudy and wet with a good inch of rain possible today. In addition to the rain, we'll see strong winds from the SSW at 10-15 which will help temperatures climb to 64 degrees.
Rain continues tonight as the low moves north and east, wrapping rain around it. We could get an additional 0.50"-1.00" of rain overnight and we desperately need this rain due to the continued drought conditions. The heaviest rain is possible early Sunday morning before the low moves east, bringing rain and thunderstorm chances to an end by late Sunday evening. We could see an additional inch of rain through Sunday as well, so the weekend total could be between two and three inches of rain! Because we are so dry, flooding is not a concern but some localized street ponding is possible, especially if some fall leaves block the storm drains.
Drier and more seasonable weather returns for Monday with continued breezy conditions. Tuesday looks to be the best day of the week with sunshine and 60s before rain chances return Tuesday night.
