Mild finish to the weekend then major work week temperature swings

CREATED Jan 8, 2012

It will be another mild day for January with mostly sunny skies and temperatures close to 40° in southeastern Wisconsin.  A light WSW breeze will keep us mild overnight as well, temperatures staying in the upper 20s with mainly clear conditions.

Heading into the work week week, the wind will crank up with some gusts up to 25mph possible on Monday.  The winds will still have a southerly direction to them, so warmer air will continue to move north.  Highs will be in the mid-40s on Monday and we'll see even warmer weather for Tuesday.  A lighter wind and continued sunshine on Tuesday will make it feel fantastic and temperature could get close to breaking the record of 52°.

The jet stream then takes a big dip and we'll watch a transition to colder air take place on Wednesday.  A few flurries are possible Wednesday night into Thursday morning before the coldest air settles in.  Highs on Thursday and Friday will only be in the low 20s, below average for January.
