THE PRIDE OF HALES CORNERS
LOCAL OLYMPIAN ON DAYBREAK
That thing is heavy.
I held an Olympic bronze medal today. I didn't think I should wear it... just wanted to hold it. Suzy wore it... and wore it well.
It's owner, Alyson Dudek, was in studio this morning on Live at Daybreak. Aly, as she goes by, earned this impressive piece of hardware as part of the 3000M short track team at the 2010 Olympics.
Short track, and particularly the relays, you'll recall is that insanity on ice that's so exciting. It's now my favorite Winter Olympics sport to watch. The judges will also accept "circus on skates" to describe the events.
I don't know much about speedskating, but I always feel like we here in Southeast Wisconsin know more than most. It's our proximity to the world class facility that is the Pettit National Ice Center. It's having friends and neighbors in speedskating... even if it's not our particular sport. It's rooting for all these hometown heroes, and feeling our Wisconsin pride when they win a spot on the medal stand.
I remember a couple classmates growing up who were into speedskating. I remember as kids we used to talk about seeing them on the Olympics one day. That never came to fruition for them, but how cool for all the people who know Aly well.
Congratulations to her. She's just getting started. I've got a bunch more photos from today's visit at www.facebook.com/vincevitrano.fan
