OPENING DAY 2010
LIVE AT MILLER PARK
It's my favorite day of the year on Live at Daybreak.
There's an energy around Miller Park on opening day, even at 4:17AM.
I'm entering this blog from a laptop computer in our live truck. It's just outside Miller Park, at about 10:41AM. As I write, the lines for the parking lot are backed up on the freeway. The smell of grills is in the air. The chopper is hovering over the Klement's Racing Sausage relay, as they bring the official "first brat' into the stadium. It's OPENING DAY!
For the first time in Miller Park history, the roof will be open today. I can't remember, ever, an opening day nicer. Ever.
I do remember freezing through clouds and flurries. I do remember standing in line for a cup of that horrible, luke warm, served in Styrofoam cup, hot chocolate. I do remember braving the unholy stench in the rest rooms at County Stadium, because at least it was warmer in there.
Things have changed for baseball here in Milwaukee. I'm hopeful for the season. Two years ago, Susan and I did Live at Daybreak from here in the fall. It was the day after C.C. Sabathia led the Brewers to victory over the Cubs in the final day of the regular season, propelling the Crew into the playoffs.
Here's to hoping we're back here in October.
I have more than 2 dozen pics from this morning on my Facebook Fan Page. Please become a fan and check them out. www.facebook.com/vincevitrano.fan.
