BREWERS TO SET US UP ONE MORE TIME
ONLY TO RIP HEARTS OUT AGAIN
I predict the Brewers will sweep the 1st place St. Louis Cardinals this week.
Coming off a sweep of the Pirates, I believe our Milwaukee Brewers will go down to St. Louis and take 3 straight from the Red Birds. It's perfect. St. Louis has been white-hot of late. They're due to stumble a bit before their final push to the post season.
The Brewers, as bad as we are, are due for a winning streak that exceeds 3 games. Have had a 4 game winning streak in the second half?
But really, I believe this will happen because it will get us excited enough to reinvest our attention in the club... just in time to have our still-beating hearts ripped from our chests and stomped on one more time!
Here's the conversation Friday morning at the office after the Crew completes the sweep:
Co-worker: See the game last night?
You: (hesitatingly) I don't know... could this be something?
Co-worker: Might be something.
You: I mean... we're only 9 back... it's a lot... but...
Co-worker: I know... it's a lot. Still... Manny keeps pitching okay... Soup comes around... Dave Bush gets well... I mean... you know...
You: I know... the bats stay hot... anything can happen?
No. Anything can't happen. Not this time Brewers. You will not suck me in! Just enough to get you going again... then play .500 for a bit... and then tank.
Please, please, please don't do that to us again, Brewers! Just lay down and quit so we can all move on the Packer season. I'd say we can look forward to next year... but God help us, how is next year going to be any better? Are we expecting to trade for or sign through free agency 2 more starters and a left-handed arm out of the bull-pen? Usually there's always next year. This year... I'm worried there is not next year.
This is the girl that breaks up with you... takes you back in a weak moment for a few glorious days over a long weekend or something... and then tells you, "I'm sorry, we should have stayed broken up."
