OPENING DAY BREAKFAST
VINNY VS. I-HOP
It's fast become tradition: breakfast at the International House of Pancakes on opening day.
For the second year in a row, Susan and I anchored our whole show live from Miller Park on opening day, and for the second year in a row we took the crew to I-Hop after.
My executive producer Rob Lowry had not, for the entire year, stopped talking about the eating clinic I put on for opening day '08. That's Rob on the upper left next to Jessie. This year he decided to document my breakfast efforts. Suzie and photographer Joe Eufamie above, right.
In all the ways I'd hope to impress my boss I usually fall short. On this matter, however, I do not disappoint. Rob is repeatedly impressed by this little man's ability to put away food. I don't eat often, and I usually eat pretty healthy. Like most things in my life, however, I don't eat at I-Hop half-way. When I throw down at the "House," it is on.
This year I ordered the spinach and mushroom omelet, with the three pancakes. Hashed browns. Sausage. Juice and coffee. It was a gallant effort, and for the record I stated to Rob I could have finished that last square inch of cakes if he needed me to. He maintained that he was adequately impressed, and therefore we agreed that I need not finish the cakes simply to make a point. There was a long morning and the Noon show still ahead.
That's photographer Ira Klussendorf, to the right. He enjoyed the show as well, and had quite a bit to eat too.
Thank you I-Hop. See you next year at the opener, if not before.
