The Associated Press reports the raucous crowd at the Marcus Center in downtown Milwaukee was rather partisan. According to the account, the crowd of 2,000 was cheering Democrats who appeared on camera, and booing Republicans.
This I don't get. Did you listen to the man's speech? President Barack Obama's first speech as Commander in Chief asked all of us to get over it and get along. It challenged Americans to come together as one nation and unite in a common cause. And presumably as those words were just about to leave his lips, some folks are still stuck in partisanship.
That's a stain on this historic day. Not a big one. It's not the kind of stain where you have to turn the car around and go home and change because you spilled coffee all over your suit, but still. It's more the kind of stain where you drip salad dressing on your pants, and then have to wear your suit coat the rest of the night so no one can see.
It's not something you want to hear when the theme of the day is promise, hope, and optimism.
