I ALMOST MISSED THE START OF THE SHOW
SERIOUSLY NOT MY FAULT
I nearly missed the top of the show today, because somebody "fixed" the clock in the newsroom.
It doesn't matter whether your clock is slow, fast, or right on time. If you become accustomed to telling time by its measure... it is what it is. So when somebody who's not you changes that clock...
The clock above the door in the newsroom has always been approximately 7 minutes fast. I know that, and live by it.
Today, I exited the newsroom to get ready for the show at the usual time... when that clock reads about 4:57AM. It's actually 4:50AM real time, leaving me about 10 minutes to get my tie on straight, etc.
It's actually 4:50AM, except for today, when it really was 4:57AM. I missed the pre-show tease which runs at 4:58. Thankfully, Susan covered me on that one. Then I barely had myself together by 5:00 exactly when we start the show.
As it turns out, my newsroom source tells me our 10:00PM producer Jay Saunders (pictured right) unilaterally decided to make that clock right. I appreciate the guy wants the clock right. I'm all for it. I just wish I knew it was right, because it was wrong for me.
Thanks a lot Saunders... you clock fixer!
