AND THAT'S WHY I DON'T GO ANYMORE
NO BREWERS VS. CUBS FOR ME
I know it's my duty as a life-long Brewer fan to help take back Miller Park, but I'm A.W.O.L. on this mission.
This morning's story about a fight following the Brewers/Cubs game last night at Miller Park exemplifies exactly why I do not, and will not attend said match up at Wrigley or here at home. It's just not worth it.
Embarrassing, isn't it? Our house half full of Cubs fans. Cubs fans behind the Brewers dugout. Cubs fans behind home plate. That shouldn't happen. But as much as I hate it, I'm not willing to be part of the solution.
Cubs pounded the Brewers last night 7-1. Then some Cubs fans pounded a Brewers fan, who may have had it coming. Nice.
These two groups of people can't get together and act decently. According to Milwaukee Police, some (likely drunken) Brewer fan chucked a can at a bus full of Cubs fans after the game. Shocker... three (likely drunken) Cubs fans exited the bus and knocked one of his teeth out.
Having gone to my share of Brewers/Cubs match-ups, I can say win or lose, I just don't enjoy being there. That's really what it's all about, isn't it? I don't like the way many Cubs fans behave in our house. I don't like the way many Brewers fans behave around Cubs fans. That fight is perfect. Brewer fan did something dumb. Cubs fans did something dummer.
I can't tell you how many people I've heard who either won't go themselves, or at least say they'd never take their kids to a game in these series.
It's too bad, but it is what it is. I fear that's why we'll never "take back Miller Park." Fans like me won't answer the call to buy up tickets, preventing Cubs fans from getting them. Add insult to injury, tickets for the Cubs series cost more now. Not going to pay more to have a bad time. I'll save my money for other better seats at other series.
I hope no one mistakes my message here. I'm no less a Brewers fan than I ever have been. My desire to have us beat the Cubs exceeds at times even my will to live. I just can't attend these rivalry match-ups anymore. My heart can't bear it.
