Vince Vitrano: Not For Broadcast

NO APOLOGY NECESSARY

CERTAINLY CREDIT DUE, HOWEVER

I continue the execution of my "fairness doctrine" this morning by again complimenting the brilliant performance by Brewer Pitcher Ben Sheets.

Striving to be nothing if not fair I must again point out that the object of so much criticism from me has outperformed even my high expectations again. Ben Sheets was baffling to Atlanta Braves hitters last night, and he threw another complete game... a 4 hitter no less. It's his third complete game of the year, and Ben's 9th win.

He's been fantastic this season... so far. Three months do not a season make, but I think Brewer fans are cautiously optimistic that this could be Ben's best ever.

That said, I don't believe Sheets strong performance this year invalidates any of the criticisms leveled against him by many fans including myself. Rather, this strong performance justifies exactly what we've been saying all along. This is what the Brewer Ace is capable of. This is what we, and the organization do and should expect of him.

When he underperforms, or chooses not to perform at all, criticism is warranted. Come to think of it, I take full credit for guilting Sheets into gutting out more performances and staying healthy thus for this season. Like I said, credit due.
