AGAIN... NEVER LET THEM TELL YOU
...THERE'S NO PLACE LEFT TO CUT
There's another example in today's Milwaukee Journal Sentinel of either mismanagement, misappropriation, or downright irresponsible spending.
I'll not belabor the point, since I just wrote extensively on this issue. I'll just point out... there's more.
MJS reporting today (link below) that the perpetually "strapped for cash" Milwaukee Police Department has more than 2 and a half million dollars in overtime tied up in just 69 employees. The top overtime earner, according to the article, was a detective who brought in more than $140,000 in salary and overtime last year.
I'm not saying cops shouldn't get theirs. I'm not saying they shouldn't get overtime. I'm not saying they don't put their lives on the line. The analysis shows, however, that maybe we shouldn't have millions of dollars tied up in a relatively small number of cops.
The point is these are taxpayer funded positions. Taxpayers in the City of Milwaukee work hard too, and many of them might work just as much OT. They're not in jobs, however, where they can double their salaries working that much and where that number puts them at a buck forty for the year.
They are in homes where the assessed value continues to rise. The cost to stay there in property taxes and fees goes up every year. Every year they pay more and get less... and then they read articles like that one in the Journal Sentinel.
They also read in the article the former Milwaukee Police Chief Nan Hegerty, after she got paid out for sick time and vacation, made $187,000 in her last year on the taxpayer dime. Oh, and she's now suing the taxpayers, because she didn't get paid enough.
Don't ever let any politician tell you there's no place left to cut.
