APPARENTLY I'M NOT ALONE.
We ran a story today on the National Motorists Association declaring Rosendale the most likely place in Wisconsin to get a speeding ticket.
Don't I know it.
I appreciate the humor of the fewer than 1000 people who live in this Fond du Lac County community. Our George Mallet, who reported on the story last night, was wearing a brand new "Rosendale... Just the Ticket" sweatshirt. He had just purchased it at one of the only businesses in town.
You may well have driven through Rosendale some time on your way to Ripon, or perhaps Green Lake. They've got to drop the speed limit there for fear you'd miss the town. It's essentially an intersection. HWYS 26 and 23 meet. There are a couple of gas stations, and that's about it.
You get lit up here more than anywhere else in the state, because they drop the speed limit from 55 to 30 in the distance of an 8 iron if you're hitting with the wind. Maybe a 7 iron. 150 yards... if you're not a golfer.
On top of that, police in that town proudly bust speeders, and I was one of them. I recall it was a rather pricey ticket as I failed to adequately reduce my speed. I used to drive that way every week.
I was working and living in Green Bay. My girlfriend, who would eventually become my wife, was living in rural Hustisford in Dodge County. Her parents lived on a lake, and she with them, so I'd head out there at least once a week. My travels, thus, took me through beautiful R-Dale. Always either in a hurry to get to her place... or late getting back to mine.
Actually, I'm amazed I only got 1 ticket.
