ALDERMAN TAKES "TOUGH ON CRIME" TO NEW LEVEL
DONOVAN TANGLES WITH PUBLIC URINATOR
A lot of politicians claim they're tough on crime, but not many of them end up brawling in the street.
South Side Alderman Bob Donovan is a no nonsense guy when it comes to crime. He's even proposed calling in the National Guard to patrol the streets of Milwaukee.
Reasonable people disagree on that, and the alderman's many other political ideas. That said, you've got to like that the guy practices what he preaches.
Last night Donovan was on his way to, get this, a block watch meeting when he caught some drunk swearing at people and harassing passers by on the street. When the drunk began to urinate on a business, Donovan stepped in, trying to get him to zip up. As he tells it, the Alderman took one on the chin. That's right... the drunk urinator just hauled off and hit him in the jaw!
Donovan continued, "The next thing I know, we're going to town!"
We're going to town? Awesome!
The two brawled until others broke it up. The alleged drunk was arrested.
I didn't think you could beat that comment about the "going to town," but in an interview with our Melissa McCrady, Donovan outdid himself. With St. Patrick's Day right around the corner, Donovan explained his actions, "I guess that's why they call us the fighting Irish."
We've seen a lot of classic characters serve in Milwaukee politics. Donovan's got to be in the top ten all time.
