OKAY... ONE MORE THING
BUT THIS TIME THEY LET ME BORROW THE TROPHY
I really, really promise this is the last time you'll be asked to read about my Red Raiders and their State Basketball Championship.
Wauwatosa East Principal Nick Hughes saw me before the Championship game Saturday night, and promised I could have the trophy for the morning show... should TE win the whole thing.
Raiders won... and Mr. Hughes made good. I've included a clip from the morning show.
I'll add only two more thoughts.
First: As far as trophies go, you've got to admit this is a pretty cool one. I mean, that's a nice looking piece of hardware. I've always thought the World Series trophy was lame looking, as are the crystal ball for the NCAA Football Champions, and the plaque for the NCAA Basketball title. They don't hold a candle to the Lombardi Trophy, or Stanley Cup. This one isn't bad for a high school championship.
Second: I'm still in awe of the feeling the players and coaches must have. When I held that trophy today it caused me to wonder what it feels like to hoist it above your head... knowing you helped win it. I mean, I swelled with pride having contributed nothing to the cause other than my entry fee in the golf-outing fund raiser in fall! To know something you did contributed to an achievement worthy of that trophy must be an unbeatable feeling.
So once again to my Red Raiders, and to all State Champions for whose accomplishments I admire and envy, I salute you.
