WE ARE THE RAIDERS AND WE'RE GOING TO STATE
CLAP, CLAP, CLAP, CLAP
It was my favorite chant at basketball games in high school, and I got to yell it twice in my 4 years at Wauwatosa East.
Among my fondest memories of high school life at Tosa East were following our very good basketball teams. I was a freshman in 1989 when the Red Raiders won it all. My junior year, we lost in overtime to Rufus King in the state final. A three-pointer by King at the buzzer sent it into O.T. and they finished it off, beating us by a point.
Basketball is religion at Tosa East. It has been since the days of Tony Smith, who went on to a great career at Marquette and then to the NBA. More recently, T.E. grad Devin Harris was a Big Ten super-star for the Badgers, and is enjoying great success in "the Association" as well. Waiting in the wings is recent East grad Jerry Smith, who's lighting it up for Louisville. Barring the unforeseen, he' the the next Raider to enter the NBA.
I'll not bore you all with the details of my State Championship trips, but I just wanted to brag on my Red Raiders who again are heading up to the Tournament in Madison. I'm so proud of those guys, first year head coach Tim Arndorfer, and of my school.
Good luck boys. Enjoy the ride, and bring the gold ball back to Tosa.
