NICE PLAY BY THE ROOKIE
WAY TO BE, BRAUN!
We always do the story when some big time athlete makes a big time mistake... so here's a bit of good news.
I try always to make a point of sharing positive things about high profile people who certainly get kicked by we in the media when they're down.
Ryan Braun is baseball's rookie of the year and the Milwaukee Brewers third baseman, turned outfielder. If this rising young star did something bad, we in the media would be all over it. If it were drunk driving, or a domestic dispute, or drugs, dogs, or gambling... he'd be hammered in the media. Often times its justified, and the price of being a person in the public eye.
Still, it's a lot of responsibility. So I go out of my way to promote guys doing it right when they do it right. Ryan Braun just did something really right.
We just had Milwaukee Journal Sentinel sports writer Tom Haudricourt on Live at Daybreak. What a good guy. Anyway, he dropped in his blog the other day that Braun donated his rookie of the year bonus to Habitat for Humanity. 10 large.
Now look. I know the guy is a pro athlete, and $10,000 is a drop in his bottomless bucket, but he didn't have to do it. Especially since he's a young player. Sometimes it takes a while for the young guys to "get it."
I've got no larger point here, other than to give credit to a guy doing good.
