MY BROTHER HAD THAT COAT
THE ONE WITH ALL THE ZIPPERS
I don't know if there are any pictures of Nick in that stupid MJ jacket he had, but I sure wish there were.
Yeah, we were all nuts for Michael Jackson when we were kids. I mean I was younger than 10 when Thriller came out... which makes my brother younger than 6 I guess. I can't blame him, but dude went a little farther than many of us in our MJ fandom. He had the jacket.
This all came up today, because we did the story on this being the 25th anniversary of MJ getting his head lit on fire while shooting that Pepsi commercial.
I remember we had Michael Jackson day at Wilson Elementary School in Wauwatosa shortly after the incident. We were all encouraged to wear a single glove, as MJ was left with following the incident. I went to Brian Randall's house in Ravenswood, and we decorated white gloves with glitter glue to wear the following day at school. Awesome.
Okay... that's lame, but I never had the jacket. My brother wore that thing around, and thought he was the coolest. He also had some Michael Jackson Sing Along Microphone. It was this ridiculous contraption that never worked. It was supposed to allow you to sing along with songs on the radio.
I guess that was about as sound of technology as my recording method of the day. Before I got the Thriller tape for my birthday, I recall holding our tape recorder up to the speaker when Thriller was on MTV and getting an excellent recording that way. Think about that. A quarter century later I type the words "Michael Jackson and Thriller" into a computer and I'm watching the video in seconds.
Anyway... my brother had that jacket.
