Vince Vitrano: Not For Broadcast

  • Print

Many musical performers have their "sings the holiday favorites" compilations, but you've never seen or heard anything like Twisted Christmas.

We've got Elvis singing Christmas songs at my house. I've long said normal is whatever things were like when you were growing up. At my house, we had one Christmas album, and it was some fancy choir singing traditional Christmas songs. We played it once or twice a year around the holidays, and that was that. I'm not sure I liked it, but it meant Christmas was here, and that was always exciting.

In my wife's house, her mom loved Elvis. She had, what was then a "contemporary" holiday favorite... Elvis singing Christmas Carols. Well... that's what we got at my house now, along with the traditional carols... oh, and Charlie Brown Christmas. Nothing says Christmas to me like the sounds of that familiar piano and bass knocking out "Oh Christmas Tree" or the Charlie Brown Bunch singing "Hark the Herald Angels Sing."

I don't know if this is "normal" in anybody's house for Christmas, but did you know Twister Sister has a holiday album. It's just amusing to me, really. Twisted Sister singing holiday favorites. Even better, Twisted Sister doing rock video of holiday favorites.

It comes to mind again today as our 6:00 AM producer Jim Stoll replayed one of my favorite clips of all time this morning. It's Twisted Sister performing "O Come All Ye Faithful" on the Tonight Show last year. I couldn't find that on You Tube, but I posted a link to the music video for the song below. It's awesome.

You've really got to hand it to these guys. I mean is was the 1980's last time we heard from them. Two decades later they're still slipping into the Spandex and the shoulder pads... getting all doctored up with face paint... and head banging. I mean, they really get out there and sell it.

I hope you're enjoying whatever feels like the holidays in your home.
