It began with yet another movie reference lost on my pal and Daybreak colleague Meteorologist Craig Koplien.
There's a tourism commercial running during our show promoting Wyoming or one of the Dakotas and it's got a picture of that mountain looking thing in Close Encounters of the Third Kind. So I mention that to Koplien, and again he draws a blank, having not seen it.
You know the mountain looking thing... the one Richard Dreyfuss models in his mashed potatoes. Just mentioning that moment should be funny to Craig, but he's not there. That's why I'm on him about this. There's only one solution... and that's to pressure Craig into seeing these classics which we can all agree he must see.
From now on I will publish a continuing list of films Craig needs to see.
Yes, that's right. He hasn't seen The Godfather either. Not one, not two, not three. I join other movie buffs who wish I hadn't seen three, but I guess you have to, just so you can join the conversation.
He's also not seen 2001 or 2010. None of the Indiana Jones series (and I'll give him a pass on the second one there since that never should have been made). Didn't see my favorite Superman movie, which was the second in the series with Christopher Reeve.
Now, I will give Craig credit for his top movie picks, including Fletch (pictured left). Nice. Caddy Shack, Beverly Hills Cop, Animal House, Stripes, and Vacation round out Craig's top 6. Excellent list... but dude needs to see some other films.
