NOT MUCH LOOSE CHANGE AT MKE
How much money did people leave at the security checkpoint in Milwaukee?
A recent report from the TSA shows travelers left more than $400,000 in unclaimed money in security lines at U.S. Airports in 2010. We got to wondering what share of that belongs to the good people of Milwaukee.
Granted, Mitchell International Airport is hardly LGA, ATL, or ORD, but MKE is a busy place nonetheless.
So what did we forget? Grand total?
That's it? 14-hundred bucks? That was my initial reaction, and then I got to thinking about who we are.
I mean, my old man stood in line for hours to get those free hamburgers from Webb’s in ’87. My grandparents on the South Side used to unplug all their appliances when not in use. My mom snuck homemade popcorn into that 2-screen movie theater in the parking lot at Mayfair. We’re cheap! Wait… I mean… thrifty. We know the value of a buck.
I bet our airport had old ladies going back through the security line to reclaim the 7 cents they left in the dish.
As a colleague of mine once said of us... people would line up for free nickels in this town.
Oh well. We are who we are.
