DENVER - I don’t know JJ Watt, but his aunt and uncle sure are nice.
You never know who you’re going to bump into in an airport. Our TODAY’S TMJ4 Road Warrior, Caitlin Morrall, met her husband at DEN.
On our way to Los Angeles, connecting through Denver, we met some really proud family members going to watch a young man live his dream. Pewaukee’s own JJ Watt is about to play in the Rose Bowl for the Wisconsin Badgers.
“It’s awesome! Totally exciting,” JJ’s aunt and godmother Deb Keesler exclaimed. We caught up during the three hour layover in the Mile High City. How did I pick her out? Deb was wearing a badger sweatshirt and two Badger pins. One had JJ’s picture on it. The other read “Beat TCU!” Pretty good investigative journalism by me.
“He started out wanting to play football and be a Badger since he was a little kid,” Deb explained. “It’s pretty neat to see his dream come true.”
Deb, and her husband Kevin will be meeting up with the rest of the family in LA today. They predict a large JJ Watt Fan Club turnout. Kevin said he was grateful for some time to spend with JJ around Christmas, and that they tried to focus on family and the holiday, not too much on the Rose Bowl.
But everyone was thinking about it.
Now they hope for a great week in California and some opportunity to hang with their nephew a bit. “JJ has some free time in the evening,” Kevin said. “We’ll be able to hook up before the game. That will be nice.”
There’s little doubt JJ has more big football games ahead of him, but there is no doubt this is the biggest so far.
