HOPING TO BREAK THE STREAK
I'M COVERING THE ROSE BOWL... GULP
I truly, honestly, in my heart of hearts considered turning down this tremendous opportunity.
I am thrilled to have the honor of covering our Wisconsin Badgers in the Rose Bowl this year. Lance Allan and I will anchor our coverage from Pasadena. Lance's live reports begin on Christmas Day. I'll arrive later in the week, reporting first for the 10PM news on Wednesday the 29th.
Before you give me the old "must be nice" treatment... you should know I'm hardly packing my golf clubs. Count on me to be up for Live at Daybreak (first live shots at 4AM Pacific) and Live at Ten as well. It's going to be awesome... but it's not a vacation.
I want to come clean about something before we go, however. I'm a bit worried. I have a terrible road record. I haven't come home from a major road trip with a win since... well... ever!
1994 I was writing for a publication called Packer Insider. Covered the Thanksgiving Day game at Dallas where the Pack came from ahead to lose, and Michael Irvin ate Terrell Buckley for Thanksgiving dinner.
1998 Covered Super Bowl 32 for the CBS Station in Green Bay. That didn't end well.
2000 Covered the Badgers appearance in the Final Four. Ugliest game in history as Bucky fell to Michigan State.
2003 In New Orleans for Marquette getting pounded in their Final Four game against Kansas. Rock Chalk Jayhawk.
2004 In Philadelphia for 4th and 26. That's where that very sad, pouting picture was taken.
That was a long time ago! I'm hopeful things have changed I can walk off my return flight Sunday, January 2 with my head held high. ON WISCONSIN!
