HOW DO YOU DEFINE "VAST MAJORITY?"
MY FAVORITE COMMENT ON THE NEWS TODAY
This is not a commentary on high speed rail.
I'm not exposing the ignorance of this sound bite because I want you to be for or against high speed rail. While the developments on that front will be fascinating going forward, that's not what this is about.
This is about one of those classic stories where you want to ask the guy, "Did you lie... or are you just that ignorant?"
State Senator Spencer Coggs (D Milwaukee) came on TODAY'S TMJ4 and said, "we ought to be moving full speed ahead, because this is something that the vast majority of Wisconsin wants."
Wish I'd been there. Here's the follow up, "Senator, how do you define 'vast majority?'"
Here are the facts: A St. Norbert College survey showed support for high speed rail in Wisconsin at 44%. Now in fairness, that's not nobody, but it's sure not half or better.
Wisconsin voters picked the man who pledged to kill high speed rail with 52% of the vote.
By no objective measure do either of those facts point even to a majority of Wisconsin supporting the proposal... much less a "vast majority."
So... guy who wanted to be Lt. Governor, which way do you want it? Did you did you not know that most of Wisconsin didn't support the proposal (which if you're in charge, you should have known), or did you just lie about it (which is bad... 'cause lying is wrong)?
