Do Not Deliver To An Intoxicated Person

My wife got me one of those "wine of the month" memberships for my birthday. Apparently a new wine will show up at my door every month. I'm looking forward to trying the different varieties, but I'll have to make sure I'm alert and coherent when the UPS man rings the bell, take a look:

Today, some answers to some good questions from the e-mailbag...

  • I've Got Mail!

Some answers to recent questions from listeners and viewers:

  • Thanks, Dad

Just want to express my gratitude to the men and women who serve our country and defend our freedom on this Veteran's Day. Here's my favorite vet:

  • Baseball Play-By-Play and A Very Long Walk

Baseball Play-by-Play: I am very happy for Cory Provus, who is leaving us after three seasons to become the lead play-by-play announcer for the Minnesota Twins. Together with our partners at the Milwaukee Brewers, we'll find someone who is another great fit. Our track record is pretty good: former WTMJ sports announcers now handle play by play for the Cubs (Pat Hughes and Len Kasper), the Braves (Jim Powell) and now the Twins (Cory Provus).

  • The Playboy Club, A Dead Battery And Some Quick Q&A

Well, NBC has canceled "Playboy Club", their new drama about life and love in 60's. Like other NBC affiliates, we received thousands of e-mails from people asking us to drop the show because it was "pornographic". It wasn't pornographic. It just wasn't very good. Not enough people watched it. Now it's gone. My e-mail "inbox" will be a lot lighter now.

  • The Packers & The President

As you can imagine, lots of people have been calling and e-mailing me about the "Packers vs. President" schedule conflict tomorrow night. A few points to keep in mind:

  • The Legend, A Big Loss and Summer Interns

Larry "The Legend" Johnson died this week. He was 78. I was Larry's program director in the late 80's at WISN Radio. Larry was the most enthusiastic self-promoter I've ever known, and I mean this as a high compliment. He wanted everyone to listen to him. He had a bit of a reputation for being difficult or stubborn, but I always appreciated how much he loved being on the radio. As his boss, I found him polite and respectful, even quiet. Thanks for the memories, "Ledge".

  • Sports on The Radio and Half A Burger...

One of the most often asked questions this time of year deals with what we do at Newsradio 620 WTMJ when there are sports broadcast conflicts between the Packers and the Brewers. It's actually a great problem to have to deal with, because interest in the two teams is so high.

  • Dear "First Name, Last Name".....

I get a lot of e-mails commenting on our radio and TV programs. Many of them are thoughtful, constructive and interesting.

  • Hello, from the corner office...

I’ve been encouraging our staff to get more involved in blogging, twitter, facebook, etc. so I figured I’d take some of my own advice and grab some web space for myself. I’ll use this blog to discuss things happening at our stations, in the broadcast business, or just observations that might be of interest to you. When possible, I’ll share some “inside” information on what’s going on behind closed doors at Radio City. When I was on the radio in Milwaukee many years ago, I always enjoyed the interaction with my audience. Back then, I wore blue jeans to work and drove my folk’s 1968 Oldsmobile to the station from our home in Shorewood. Today, I have to dress a little nicer (and now I drive a nicer car!), but I still enjoy interacting with our audience whenever I get the chance. If there’s something you’d like me to address in this corner of our web site, please let me know. I have some ideas for upcoming blog topics, including why I’ve received thousands of e-mails complaining about a TV program that hasn’t even aired yet. I’ll include that item in my next blog. I hope you’ll check back often.
