Greetings from Omaha...just some thoughts on UW and MU moving on to round 2

  • MEMO TO NATIONAL PUNDITS

DO YOUR HOMEWORK ON THE BADGERS!

"The Badgers play a slow down style." "They score in the 50's almost every game." "Wisconsin can't get up and down the floor at all." Believe it or not, these are actual comments I've heard from the so-called experts at the so-called worldwide leader in sports. Memo to the talking heads in Bristol...do some homework for a change! Dick Bennett is one of my favorite coaches ever, but last I checked...he's not coaching the team, and the Badgers have scored 71 and 72 points against teams that love to run up and down the floor. Hello analysts....just because the Badgers have the best scoring defense in the nation, and have allowed two high scoring teams 56 and 55 points in the postseason doesn't mean they can't play at the other end. They run when the opportunity is there...otherwise Bo and the boys are a half court team. Big difference. See this is my beef. Fans love to watch these "national" experts who aren't experts at all...and believe every word they say just because they are on a major media outlet. These "experts" barely have seen the Badgers compared to those around here who have followed the team every step of the way. And don't even get me started on Bobby Knight. What little respect I had for the man is gone. He thought Kansas State would win, he quit on his team this year (imagine if one of his players did that), and now he's working for the media...the same media that disgusts him. What's more disgusting is that the man is a sellout for grabbing money...I'd have some respect for him if he stayed away. Sorry, it's just a rant I needed to get off my chest. I know I've done my homework. See you in Detroit! Emails at lallan@todaystmj4.com

WILL THE BADGERS BRING HOME 2 VICTORIES?

WILL THE BADGERS BRING HOME 2 VICTORIES?

  • OFF TO WRIGLEY FIELD

I'm back from the disappointing end and horrendous Badgers second half in Detroit...and now ready to face the Cubbies and their preppy, yuppie fans at Wrigley Field...if that's what they continue to call it before selling out and selling the naming rights to someone else. We'll be dodging the rain drops and starting at noon, we'll bring you Ned Yost's perspective as the "real season" begins. Some of my personal thoughts and predictions: I agree with Ned and Doug Melvin...I think Rickie Weeks is the "pick to click"...he's going to have a big year. He always gets lost in the shuffle, so I'm going to give him some pub...Corey Hart will have a big year, nearly a 30-30 season. The Brewers won't trade Ben Sheets...he'll have a big year, then sign with the Yanks or Mets next season. People will pitch around Prince in the 3 spot...so Ryan Braun needs to handle hitting in the cleanup position better than he did last year, one of the few things he didn't do that well last season. J.J. Hardy will get off to another fast start, just like last year. Tony Gwynn looks great...he'll be fine for the first 25 games of the season subbing for Mike Cameron, and he will be a starter next season. I'm a little worried about Eric Gagne in the closer's role, especially when it matters in September. Jeff Suppan will start off slow...and come up big during crunch time in September and the postseason. That's right folks...I said postseason, because this team is winning the NL Central by one game over the Cubs. How about that for drama! Email your thoughts and predictions to lallan@todaystmj4.com

  • Crean Goes From MU To IU

Will He Be the Hoosier Daddy?

Will He Be The Hoosier Daddy?

  • FIRST CREAN, NOW FAVRE?

Now this would be a swift kick in the shorts. Tom Crean leaving Marquette has left some Golden Eagles fans jaded...but just imagine if there is a shred of truth to the LA Times story that Brett Favre's agent, Bus Cook, is quietly pursuing trade options for the quarterback to keep playing. I don't buy it...especially after that heartfelt, emotional press conference. But just think about it. What if he returned in a Redskins uniform? A Titans uniform? A Buccaneers uniform? And how angry would Packer nation be after the tears flowed when he said goodbye. When I talked to Bus earlier this week, he said Brett was laying low...hunting a lot...and not talking at all about football or a comeback. I think more than tears would be flying if this was true. I'm sure Brett will have pangs to play at some point this offseason...but I'm not buying this one. At least I don't want to. Emails at lallan@todaystmj4.com
