What the Hart Signing Really Means
And Why the Badgers Have Big Big Ten Hopes
What does Corey Hart's 3 year contract extension worth $26.5 million really mean?
I asked GM Doug Melvin that people will connect the dots, and assume less money in the coffers means Prince will be traded in the offseason. Melvin's response? "It takes two sides in that regard to make a deal." Translation: I asked agent Scott Boras if $150 million would get the deal done. Boras allegedly said come back and talk when things get more serious. He wants $170 million or more. Goodbye Prince.
I'm going to say Rickie Weeks will be the next to get a contract extension. His agent Lon Babby, used to do contracts with Baltimore when Doug Melvin was there with the Orioles. And Babby recently became the President of the NBA's Phoenix Suns. Babby may be multi-tasking and hard to get ahold of, but I say it gets done...that way the Brewers keep offense with Hart and Weeks, and trade Prince for pitching in the offseason.
The Brewers 26 hits against the Cubs, ties a Chicago franchise record for a game. The only other time? You guessed it...against the future World Champion Milwaukee Braves on September 2, 1957.
Congrats to Casey Coleman...the third generation in his family to play in the majors. Joining the Hairstons, the Boones and the Bells as the only 4 3-generation families to play in MLB.
The Badgers picked third in the Big Ten at Media Day, behind preseason favorite Ohio State and Iowa? Sounds about right, but the Badgers are also picked as the most likely team to dethrone the Buckeyes in their run of 5 straight years with at least a conference championship or a co-title.
And apparently Bret Bielema is showing a little more bravado now that he's not on the hot seat. He told the media that he thought about walking in with a Rose Bowl hat, but thought that might be a little over the top to give everyone a story to write about. I think just mentioning it shows supreme confidence in this season.
