No, that's not my photo on the 11th hole at Whistling Straits. I wish my swing looked that good.
That's morning show playa extraordinaire Vince Vitrano, textbook follow through on the tee shot...with the sun glistening off Lake Michigan. Vince has the photos to prove where I landed...somewhere just off the beach, and somewhere not near the green at the bottom of the cliff.
Vince, Susan Kim, Bill Michaels and myself all got to play at the PGA Championship media day at one of the best golf courses on earth. Thanks to all at the Kohler Company for the invite, and for more info you can go to http://www.pga.com/pgachampionship/2010/
And how does the 27 holes come in? Well, call me insane...but I committed first to the annual MACC Fund golf outing at Tuckaway C.C. in my new adopted hometown of Franklin, and then was asked to come to the PGA Media Day...a day later. So I played 9 in the morning at Whistling Straits, jumped in the car...and literally pulled into Tuckaway as the carts started going to their holes. Big thanks to Crivello group and Crivello's Camera Centers for waiting and putting up with me!
I didn't want to see either side get shortchanged in the process...there are great people on both sides, so I alerted my friends at the MACC Fund and in Kohler about it. Through their great efforts, it became a win-win...with Y.E. Yang capping the day with a 200-yard shootout for a million bucks.
The 2009 PGA Champ didn't make it, but that's not the point. It brought two great organizations together.
And at least I got a trophy at the end of my round at Tuckaway to pose with....
