I have to admit, usually in the office it's all business. Watching games, writing scripts, editing video...I don't have a rooting interest.
Last Sunday, I told the newsroom I thought youth would be served, and the U.S. men's hockey team would beat the uptight Canadian squad in a memorable game.
We yelled, we screamed...we went nuts inside the newsroom. And when it was all over, the U.S. ended up with a 5-3 victory I'll never forget. Sure, it wasn't the Miracle on Ice, but other than that game, and the 2002 final in Salt Lake City when Canada beat the U.S. for gold, I can't remember many other games that good.
Now this Sunday, we're in for a treat. NBC gets to redeem themselves from not showing the first game in the first place, or worse yet, not cutting into it quicker when you could see the drama building.
Yes, the USA and Canada is a friendly rivalry. But this is different. This is Canada's game. And we're going to try and steal gold, in their house.
And while the Americans youth concerns me, and beating Canada one week ago woke up a sleeping giant...I have one reason why the US has a great shot at gold.
Ryan Miller, you ready to stand on your head and stop 42 of 45 shots again?
