Packers Prediction Time

Another One For the Ages

So Favreaggedon in Green Bay is almost upon us.  And to most of you, I'll make you happy with my Sunday prediction.  To a few of you Favre/Viking lovers, you'll have more reason to hate me (my recent blog about the Vikings ready to lose two straight?  I got two obscenity laced e-mails from purple people eaters!)

I'll let the cat out of the bag right away.  I said the Vikes were due for a 2-game losing streak before the bye...which means the Packers win this game.  Final score, 27-24.

When the Packers have the ball, they need to keep the hillbilly with the mullet (Jared Allen) off Aaron Rodgers, which I think they'll do a better job of this time by more quick slants...and more runs (just 11 rushes for Grant and 17 total in the last game.)  Ahman Green should be active, and will help Rodgers by relieving pressure with screen passes and chipping Allen.  Jermichael Finley's injury, whether he plays or not, will hurt the Packers...remember he stretched the field with a long TD and a career day last time out.  And mark my words, the Vikings will have a hard time replacing Antoine Winfield.  He had 9 tackles and a pick last time, and pound for pound he's the toughest player in the NFL.

When the Vikings have the ball, I don't think they can bottle up Adrian Peterson for 55 yards on 25 carries like the last time...but the Packers defense has kept him in check in the past.  It's all but certain the defense will get at least some pressure on Brett Favre this time around...Dom Capers is too good of a game planner to get shut out a second time.  Atari Bigby's return will allow Nick Collins to cover better...and I say Charles Woodson is a major factor, with a sack and a pick this Sunday.
