Great News For Harley-Davidson Motorsports

After Another Tough Week

  • Print

I live in Franklin, so it hurt to hear about more layoffs at the Harley-Davidson distribution plant in my new hometown.

It also made me stop and think when I heard this week that the Buell plant in East Troy would be temporarily laying off about 50 workers.

Because this bad piece of news, came right on the heels of one of the most incredible, undertold sports stories of the week.

And here it is....and why this guy is so happy...

Buell Motorycles is THE sports champion of the summer for Milwaukee. For America really! Buell racer Danny Eslick had an incredible season, he dominated on the track and on a bike created by a company in our own backyard.

The championship marks the first for any American manufacturer since the early 1970s when Cal Rayborn won an AMA Grand National race on a Harley-Davidson in 1972. Harley-Davidson no longer makes competitive sportbikes and Buell is considered the ONLY American sportbike manufacturer. The other big players are out of Japan and Europe – Honda, Suzuki, Yamaha and Ducati.  Making the championship more impressive is the fact that Buell is TINY compared to them.

So maybe in this tough economic times, especially for Harley and Buell...this is a ray of sunshine in American motorsports.
