Here they are, getting the fire engine escort out of town....it's the Franklin baseball team, better known as the Cardiac Cats (a play on the nickname, since Franklin is known as the Sabers.)
The Cats got the royal red carpet treatment, rolling out of town and heading to the State Summer Baseball tournament in Stevens Point, where the Sabers will face another fit inducing team....let's call Homestead the Heart Attack Highlanders, who blew a 13-run lead in one game to cap off an 8-game losing streak...only to make it all the way to Stevens Point as well.
Summer baseball doesn't nearly get the pub it deserves. Most people take the summers off....school is out of session...and everyone breezes in and out of town.
So maybe that's why Manager Jim Hughes is hiding his face. Just the second Wisconsin coach to win 700 games, I know he's sick of the story and wants the focus on the kids. But it's his 7th trip to state with Franklin, so he deserves as much credit as anyone.
I just thought this well kept secret, needed a little attention.
