Lance Allan: Sports Glance with Lance
A LIVE SHOT FOR THE AGES
I HAVEN'T HAD ONE THIS BAD...BUT CLOSE
My all-time worst live shot? Probably in New Orleans. The day Dwyane Wade was named an All-American, my news director at the time wanted us to do live shots on Bourbon Street.
When we turned our camera light on, it was like moths to the flame. A drunk dude stumbled over and tried to pour a beer on the camera lens, all the while I was live on the air and giving him a stiff arm. Photographer Dan Selan proceeded to grab him and throw him out into the street, so you see dude flying through the air behind me.
When we were off camera, the producer asked me in my earpiece what all the ruckus was about. I excitedly said "WE'RE FIGHTING FOR OUR LIVES DOWN HERE! THAT'S WHAT'S GOING ON!"
Well, here's one that tops that. Click on the link: http://vimeo.com/4965587 and watch this reporter get all wet! Brandon Lewis is my new TV hero!
