The Packers are opening the season right here on Today's TMJ4....Sunday night, September 13th with kickoff at approximately 7:15pm.
This is a rarity....the Packers have only started under the prime time lights four other times. But clearly the NFL likes this matchup. With Michael Buffer shouting "Let's Get Ready to Rumble," the Packers kicked off the 1997 season after winning the Super Bowl...by beating on the Bears 38-24.
The Packers also kicked off the 1973 season on Monday Night Football right here in Milwaukee, beating Broadway Joe Namath and the Jets 23-7 at County Stadium. A 2004 win over Carolina and last year's win over the Vikes on MNF make the Packers 4-0 in prime time season openers.
Also, the Packers will be playing on Thanksgiving Day for the 33rd time...and the 19 meetings against the Lions, the most for any opponent of Detroit. The Packers just played at Ford Field 2 years ago, winning 37-26.
