PACKERS FIRINGS: REACT!

YOU RESPOND TO THE DEFENSIVE BLOWOUT

  • Print

There was no shortage of opinions on the Packers cleaning house on the defensive side of the ball.  And we'll see if the Packers go a different direction with the zone blocking scheme, and offensive line coach James Campen feels the heat later on:

Dick Propson writes:  It would not have looked right for the Packers to release Winston Moss at the very time that he is interviewing for a head coaching position.  I doubt that he will be back with the Packers either way--if he gets the head job with the Rams (highly unlikely) or he will disappear, ala Mike Stock.

I'm hearing there's a chance Moss won't return if he's not named the coordinator...this from the same person who told me a month ago that the secondary coaches were in trouble....and right now Mike Nolan is the front runner.  So as they say, stay tuned!

Bob Wolfgram of Waukesha reponds to my criticism of Winston Moss and the linebackers:

I agree...I dont know why they didnt get rid of Moss too.  I didnt think our  line backer play was so hot.  In fact, it stunk for the most part.  Going into the season and looking at our defense, I felt that our linebackers was going to be a great strength.  Hardly.  I wish they had dumped Moss as well.  Or maybe we need to dump some underperforming, over rated linebackers?

Well, they won't dust A.J. Hawk.  But dumping Rock Gullickson shows that the little bit of flexibility Hawk had was likely lost in Gullickson's training methods.  And I'm on record as Hawk's position being MLB...so I don't know where that leaves Nick Barnett recovering from a knee injury.
Tim Evans of Palatine, Illinois chimes in:

Any insight to why Rock Gullickson was canned?  See how the defense was drained down the stretch at the end of the game, I’m thinking they wanted to go in a different direction with the strength and conditioning.

I think too many hamstring injuries...too many injuries period...and like I stated above, the Hawk lack of flexibility was very evident.

Justin Cobb pens this response:

We need players and coaches this defense was terrible to lose so many games at the end when the offense put us in position to win.

Justin, it was mostly about the players to begin with.  Now they really have no excuse.  And I'm think whomever the new coordinator is, more changes will be made.  Could 34-year-old Al Harris get traded?  Another LB added?  A pass rusher signed in free agency?  Stay tuned!

And finally, Lori Ebbe ends on a humorous thought...I think:

DEAR SIR,

I THINK THAT BOTH MCCARTHY AND THOMPSON SHOULD BE FIRED!!!!!!

Seems to be a thought growing steam that won't happen...at least not now.  But another 6-10 year?  Look out.
