Lance Allan: Sports Glance with Lance

GOLFING FOR REGGIE

AND HAVING A GOOD TIME DOING IT

  • Print

I'll admit....I had no idea how severe sleep disorders were, until the late great Reggie White passed away.

I'll never forget the day.  Right after Christmas.  A Sunday morning.  My phone was ringing and vibrating non-stop during church service, so I knew something was up.

So I ran out of the back of the church, and checked messages.  And I couldn't believe it.

Reggie White was dead from a sleep disorder.  The man who was larger than life, passed away because of something I had no idea had this tragic effect.

So thanks to Steve Gardner, Mark Stoiber and the rest of the fine people at the Sleep Wellness Institute for educating me, and hosting a first class golf tournament to raise money and awareness to the cause.

Obviously the photo above is with Gorman Thomas.  It still blows my mind that I'm on a first name basis with Gorman, Robin, Paulie, Jim and others from the 82 World Series team that I dreamed of being a part of when I was a kid.

And do you want something that takes your breathe away?  Check out this view.  No wonder it's called Hawk's View near Lake Geneva.  This course is tough but fair.  You have to work for par, yet if you land on the green, the ball can funnel toward the hole.

The course is manufactured to a T (pun intended), and the scenery is great.

Two of the four par 3's have elevated tees, where you hit down to the green just like this.  This is the view off of 17...absolutely priceless.  I can't imagine what it looks like, or how breathtaking it is when the trees start to turn colors in another month.

Yes, that's the spacious clubhouse down below, in the foreground.

The last photo?  Yeah, I think you know these four clowns.   Susan Kim gets my vote for the best dressed golfer.  Brian Gotter, tallest golfer.

And Melissa McCrady looks like she can play, although she says she's still learning.

Again, if you think you have a sleep disorder, don't wait like Reggie.  Give Steve or Mark a call at (414) 336-3000 or click on http://www.sleepwellandlive.com/swi_about/staff.html and get some help.  You won't believe what a good night's rest can do for you!
