Well, if the Brewers were that South Park episode...you'd have mass pandemonium and chaos in the streets.
Like Green Day sings, wake me up when September ends. A 5 1/2 game lead at the beginning of the month, wiped out with a 3-11 record in the past 14 games, including a sweep by the Phillies to draw the teams even in the wild card chase.
At the same time the Cubs Carlos Zambrano not only rubs salt in the wound with a no-hitter at Miller Park...but rips the gash open more by celebrating in the Brewers clubhouse.
Ouch.
Want more pain? How about pitcher Brett Myers and his .057 average getting a key run scoring hit off Jeff Suppan to complete the sweep. How about Ned Yost, not wanting CC Sabathia to pitch on shorter rest when Myers becomes the first pitcher since Andy Pettitte in 2000 to pitch a complete game on 3 days rest. And while Ryan Braun hasn't made an error in left, he didn't charge a ball hit to him in the first game of the doubleheader in Philly....which allowed the tying run to score under the swipe tag attempted by Jason Kendall.
Maybe the Brewers recover with 6 of their final 12 games against the Cubs. Or maybe we have more pain to come...extending this playoff draught to 27 years. Wow, I dread that thought.
